If you're a homeowning outdoor enthusiast like us, you've probably come to realize your life would be made much simpler with a storage shed. With the summer season just around the corner, you may have already decided on the type of storage shed you want and are ready to go. But are you prepared for your shed delivery?
Your gut answer may be, "Of course!" but at Sun Rise Sheds, we want to do everything to make the shed delivery process as smooth as possible for our customers. We've put together a few questions that may help you prevent severe issues in the shed delivery and setup process.
Do You Know Where You Are Placing The Shed?
The placement of your shed on your property is essential to its function, aesthetic, and overall lifespan. But before you schedule your shed delivery, you may want to check a few things about your ideal placement.
Is Your HOA A Problem?
Depending on where your property is, you may be a part of an HOA Home Owner's Association. If that's the case, you'll want to check what rules and regulations they may have in place about adding a shed to your property. Most of the time, there are guidelines on how far a shed needs to be from the property line or how large it can be.
Are You Blocking Any Utilities?
Even if you're not part of an HOA, you should check with your local municipality on where you're placing your new shed. There may be water, sewer, or electrical lines where you want to put your shed, which could cause issues down the road. For instance, if the city needs to access any of these lines, you're going to be stuck moving your shed and paying for it.
Is It A Low Spot Prone To Flooding?
You want your shed to have a long lifespan, so make sure you put it in a place where you set it up for success. If you're covering up a bad spot in your lawn with your shed, maybe rethink the placement if that spot is from excessive moisture. Always make sure your shed is set up on dry, stable ground so that it doesn't shift or settle over the years. Also, the moisture could cause mold or rot that would deteriorate your shed over time.
Is Your Foundation Ready?
Before you schedule your shed delivery, make sure you already have your foundation ready to go. You'll want to have a level surface that's been measured and filled with the proper base. That way, our delivery experts can set up your shed right where you need it without having to move it later. You can even find plenty of resources online to help with this process.
How Will The Delivery Truck Back Into Position?
As exciting as your shed delivery will be, there are still a few questions you need to consider to make the process seamless. Any delivery trucks will likely need to back into your property to unload your shed correctly. Depending on the size of your structure, this could be daunting. If you want to make the delivery drivers a lot happier, consider these few questions before your shed delivery.
Are Gates Or Fences Opened Or Moved?
Most of the time, you'll need to take out a section of fence to get your shed into your backyard. Sometimes all your shed delivery will need is for you to remove a gate and one panel. Just don't forget to take the width of the truck into account, as well, when you make measurements. Also, if you have a dog fence or any underground wires, make sure those are buried deep enough, so we don't run over and damage them!
Are The Trees And Branches Out Of The Way?
Once again, your delivery drivers will need to navigate around any flora and fauna you have in your yard. Most of the time, you think of obstructions on the ground, but don't forget about what's up high as well! Lower hanging tree branches may get caught on your shed, scratch it, or even fall and damage it.
Are There Power Line Obstructions?
Another shed-related question to ask yourself is whether or not there are any low power lines near your property. Never try to handle powerlines by yourself! First, give us or your municipality a call to see what we can do to help.
